So I found this newspaper article in Utusan Malaysia on August 30th 2011.
And so it made me wonder.
Do people really prefer kopiah than songkoks?
The tittle says "Songkoks Are Having A Competition From Kopiahs"
Here's something you should know before you continue reading this post.

A Simple Example Of A Kopiah/Ketayap
Normally used by Muslim men.
It is used to cover their head and to hide their hair so that the forehead can be seen.
This is because the forehead must be on the ground when they "Sujud" without hair(s) covering it.
A kopiah is also known as a ketayap.
Not to be confused with Kuih Ketayap.
DIFFERENCE #1
Sonkoks can't be washed in the washing machine.But kopiahs can.
It's easier to wash and it's easier to maintain compared to a songkok.
A songkok will loose it's shape and might loose it's colour.
A kopiah will keep its colour and shape even after washed.
So it's concluded that songkoks are not a suitable choice to put in a washing machine.
DIFFERENCE #2
Kopiahs are easier to pack compared to a songkok.Kopiahs can be folded into a small size to fit into a bag.
But songkoks can't.
Songkok has a hard cover and usually packed in a box.
So,
It will take up lot of space in when packing.
DIFFERENCE #3
The price of a songkok is higher than a kopiah.So, obviously!
People will prefer a kopiah rather than a songkok.
Why is it more expensive.
It could be because of the material that is used for make it.
DIFFERENCE #4
The kopiah is more cooling compared to a songkok.A kopiah is thinner than a songkok.
So, air will travel faster and easier.
Another reason is the colour.
Songkoks are always black which most of you might know absorbs heat.
Ketayap are white which reflects heat.
So, do you get what I mean?
Why do you think people prefer kopiahs/ketayap rather than songkok?
I don't prefer anything.
But if I were to choose between 1 of them.
I would have to choose a ketayap.
But, I'll wear songkoks at times.
